Houston is a city that loves to innovate, to show something new to their citizens in every aspect it can be done. Great natural Zoo, interactive museums, hundreds of places to visit and see with different ideas to appeal the customers.

And now we want to talk about one of the west addition to the city's appealing points, the retro-futuristic machine LOOP. This fun and entertaining new art installation is a cross between a music box, a zoetrope (an early form of hand-cranked animation) and a railway handcar with more than two meters in diameter, creates animated fairy-tale loops.

Through the combined efforts of members of the public working the hand lever, the image cylinder lights up and creates the illusion of motion in the drawings. The black and white images, tinted through a strobe effect, recall the earliest movies and are visible inside the cylinder as well as outside it, so that they can be watched from close up or far away. The speed at which the images fly by, the frequency at which the light flickers and the rhythm of the audio composition are all directly related to the pace set by the participants, who can be of any age.

And, while some artwork is to be seen and not touched, that’s not the case with this exhibit. Visitors sit inside the devices, and using a little elbow grease to crank a metal bar, they can watch images of a fairy tale scene come alive all around them.

The stories are all based off fairy tales, including Pinocchio, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Alice in Wonderland.

“The faster you pump, the faster it goes around,” Is one of the common things you hear people say about this, At night, there are lights that blink as part of the animation and also on the loop’s exterior, They’re fun during the day, but at night they really are dynamic.

They’re very durable so families climb on them; they’ve had as many as three or four children in at one time.
